Cascoland Journal
Thursday 9 March
After preliminary races a few weeks back the boxcar project of some
students of the Stellenbosch Academy of Graphic Design & Photography
had its final races on Friday March 10. On Tom Street an exciting race
ensued to win the honor of being boxcar champion of New Crossroads.
Meanwhile inside the church at the Mayenzeke Centre the paper making workshop
was taking place. Looking at the eagerness with which some residents of
New Crossroads were in the process of making paper in a big tub this project
has really taken off. A student of the paper workshop had already linked
the trainee residents with a representative of a similar project in another
township.
Inside the church one could see the result of the t-shirt Xchange project.
The old shirts were sown together and inside the pictures of all participants
were hanging.
Part of the postcards were already gone, people who had exchanged their
shirt could pick up their photo. At that moment young and old where surprised
seeing each other having participated in the project.
Meanwhile outside the Mayenzeke Centre a range of games were played with
the youth of New Crossroads. The activities of the students brought a
festive atmosphere to the day.
Hopefully the Academy will keep closely linked to their new friends in
New Crossroads. Cascoland hopes, like one of the students already said
weeks ago during their presentation, that all South Africans, without
regard to color or racial background should assist each other as one people.
