Dutch artist Rob Sweere also constructed a radio tower at the Mayenzeke
Centre. It is made of corrugated steel, the same material that many houses
in the townships are made off. Inside the tower one can only look at the
outside world vertically. Everything is made from within the structure
- the outlook of the tower is a direct result of the concept of sitting
inside it. The tower is a beacon or a landmark in the surrounding landscape.
During Cascoland Rob interviewed six people about the theme ´where
is home´. For him home doesn´t only mean what the house looks
like. It is also about how you feel inside and how you relate to the environment
around you. The people Rob invited for his radio tower project came from
New Crossroads and the inner city of Cape Town. People of different colors
and backgrounds. The interviews will be broadcasted on the local radio
station Radio Zibonele 98.2 FM, in their program Community Issues.
